Planting wildlife beneficial trees and shrubs is a great addition to any property. When the correct species are selected, they can add unique food sources and cover types for all sorts of wildlife, pollinators, and more. I also like the fact that since fruit trees or specialized hard mast trees like chestnut offer a varied food source that's often not available on surrounding properties, they allow us to set our farms apart from the neighbors.
This is very helpful to keep deer and other wildlife on your properties as much as possible, especially during hunting seasons when neighbors could harvest them. This will help a landowner to further control the age class of the deer herd and safely pass on younger bucks knowing they are spending the majority of time on their property.
Also, wildlife trees and shrubs do a great job providing vitamins that your typical native habitat can be lacking. They also allow a manager to control where the deer will be feeding if he considers when the trees will be producing. For example, we often place our early producing pears, chestnuts, apples, and sawtooth oaks adjacent to our best early-season food sources. The early-season food plots will have the deer already feeding in the area, and when the trees start dropping, they'll have all the more reason to continue to feed there.
Additionally, the majority of our trees are low maintenance and produce most every year if conditions allow. For all these reasons, we grow, sell, and install a wide range of trees and shrubs, as well as sell the protection supplies that allow them to reach maturity.
